I've just been reading Leviticus chs 1-7 over the last few days. I confess that this is not a common experience. I have read Leviticus a couple of times before, but I don't tend to head straight for it - in the past I've just found it dull and repetitive and not really where I'm at.
But this time it's been different. There have been bits about fellowship meals and their part in our worship and there's been bits about offering the very best. But the idea that has come across most strongly to me has been how deeply involved the people were in their offerings. They didn't jus come with an offering and let the Priests get on with it. No, the person making the offering was involved in the killing and the preperation of the sacrifice. And then there was a whole chapter (here) that seems to be about problems of people being sloppy and careless. It struck me that even if we believe that Jesus died for us; this is no cheap salvation. We are involved in working things out and it's a serious business.
So thanks to Scripture Union for getting me to read a section of the bible I tend to avoid (I guess that's why I still use your notes!) and thank you God for taking the time to talk to me over a point I needed to consider again.
